"Reporting
a concussion doesn't mean you aren't TOUGH.... You're TOUGH if you sustained a
concussion - you are playing a TOUGH sport, in a TOUGH position, making TOUGH
plays - Be TOUGH - not stupid... report a concussion and make a safe return to
play."

ESPN has
done a story on Second ImPACT Syndrome and ImPACT will be
mentioned
UPMC
Sports Medicine Concussion Program neuropsychologist Dr. Michael Collins
was interviewed for a pre-taped segment of ESPN’s nationally televised
“E:60” news magazine program, debuting at 7 p.m., ET, Tuesday, May 4.
The segment, focusing on sports concussions in young athletes, is framed
around the actual case of LaSalle University football player Preston
Plevretes, who was severely injured in a game against Duquesne
University in 2008 and underwent life-saving brain surgery at UPMC Mercy
by Dr. Altschuler. The UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program and Dr.
Collins are featured on both the TV show and in a companion dotcom piece
to run on the show’s website this week. The dotcom piece will showcase
the proper management of sports-related concussion.
The link to
the video is below, you can watch online, it is a VERY POWERFUL
message on second impact syndrome that is reported as only occurring in
athletes under age 23! All
football players should be required to watch.
